    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy (pdf)

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application (pdf) and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form (pdf).  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site .  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

      April 2025- APRIL REGISTRATION OPENS FRIDAY, MARCH 14TH

      • Knitting & Crochet Circle (pdf)-  Mondays from 1:30-3:30 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited.
      • Independent Preschool Story Time Ten Week Session (pdf)- Preschoolers (ages 3 1/2 to 5) can join Miss Emily for a 10-week parent-free Preschool Story Time at 6pm, starting on Tuesday, January 14th and 21st; February 11th, 18th, and 25th; March 18th and 25th; and April 1st, 15th, and 22nd. If you sign up, it is for all ten sessions! Space will be limited. Registering signs you up for every session for that time period- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up. - this program is full!
      • Painting for Fun for Adults with the West Seneca Art Society (pdf)- Adults can join the West Seneca Art Society for a fun painting program on Tuesday, April 1st at 5:30pm. Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Baby & Me Twelve Week Session (pdf)- You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for Baby & Me! Wednesdays at 9:30am or 10:30am on January 15th, 22nd, and 29th; February 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th; March 19th and 26th; and April 2nd, 9th, and 16th! If you sign up, it is for all twelve sessions! This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited. Registering signs you up for every session for that time period- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up. - this program is full!
      • Toddler Time Twelve Week Session (pdf)- Toddlers (ages 2 to 3 1/2) can join us with their parent or guardian on Thursdays at 10am or 11am on January 30th; February 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th; March 20th and 27th; April 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th; and May 1st for Toddler Time!       • Family Story Time and Easter Egg Hunt (pdf)- Join Miss Emily on Tuesday, April 8th at 6pm for a Family Story Time and Easter Egg Hunt! This program is geared towards kids ages 3-6, and there will be a 5 egg limit per child. Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Teen Escape Room (pdf)- Teens ages 11-17 can join us for a fun escape room! This program takes place on Thursday, April 10th with sessions at 4pm, 5:15pm, and 6:30pm. Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Painting for Fun for Teens with the West Seneca Art Society (pdf)- Teens ages 12-17 can join the West Seneca Art Society for a fun painting program on Saturday, April 12th at 11am.       • CANCELED-- A History of Earth Day with John Szalasny (pdf)-  Join John Szalasny on Saturday, April 12th at 11am in the community room to explore the interesting history of Earth Day, a day for raising awareness about and promoting the protection of our planet.       • Family Escape Room (pdf)- Families can join us on Monday, April 14th for a fun escape room! Sessions are available between 10am and 12pm, as well as between 2:15pm and 6pm.       • The Storybook Cook: Liz Bauld Presents Slow Cooker Creations (pdf)- Join Storybook Cook Liz Bauld on Monday, April 14th at 6pm as she demonstrates a few of her go-to meals made in a slow cooker, including a dessert. Generous samples are provided for you to enjoy so come hungry! Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Book a Technology Trainer (pdf)- Need computer assistance?  We can help!  These free 45 minutes sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Our next sessions will take place on Tuesday, April 15th between 10am and 4pm. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books onto your tablet or phone. Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the West Seneca Public Library information desk.
      • Fuse Beads (pdf)- Thursday, April 17th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Mo Willems Pigeon Party (pdf)- Saturday, April 19th from 1:30pm-3pm. Do you love the Pigeon? So do we! Join us for a fun Mo Willems Pigeon Party where we'll have crafts, games, and more!       • Kids Craft: Drop-In Craft with Movie (pdf)- Kids ages 5-12 can join Miss Emily for a fun Earth Day-themed craft and a movie on Monday, April 21st. Drop in between 5pm and 7pm for the craft, or come at 5pm and stay for the whole movie! Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Meeting (pdf)- Teens can join us on Thursday, April 24th for our first Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meeting at 6pm. TAG members will help provide insight on how to better serve teens, help plan and implement programs, meet new people, and gain volunteer hours, experience, and leadership skills.       • West Seneca's Historic Neighborhoods with Jim Pace (pdf)- Join local historian Jim Pace on Monday, April 28th at 6:30pm for an informative evening where he will discuss historic neighborhoods in the West Seneca area, including Ebenezer, Gardenville, Winchester, and more!       • West Seneca Public Library Book Club (pdf)-  Monday, April 28th at 6:30 PM. Discussing Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen.       • University Express: Beginner Watercolor Painting (pdf)- This program takes place on Monday, May 5th at 5:30pm. The teacher will talk about the different types of watercolors available, the different types of paper that can be used, and the different brushes.  Attendees will do a hands-on watercolor painting using their newfound skills, and the teacher will try to help attendees figure out what minimal supplies they will need if they decide to pursue their new hobby! Registration is required!       • Baby Rave (pdf)- Miss Emily will be hosting a baby rave in the community room on Tuesday, May 6th at 6pm! This baby-friendly rave is for those ages 0-24 months and their caregivers. Baby raves teach young children about music and movement through a fun interactive experience! Please note, there will be flashing lights and older siblings will not be permitted inside the room for safety reasons! Space will be limited and registration is required.       • University Express: Cards for Wishes (pdf)- This program takes place on Wednesday,  May 21st at 11am. Make a difference in our community by joining the "Cards for Wishes" class, a vibrant and heartwarming University Express class where older adults come together to create handmade cards for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Led by the AmeriCorps Seniors Retired Senior Volunteer Program’s (RSVP)  craft-master Cindy Solly, this free, one-hour class is all about spreading joy and making a difference while having a blast! You'll learn cool card-making techniques, get creative with different materials, and share laughs with new friends. No experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to make a difference. Registration is required! Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register!       • Library Discards Book Sale (pdf)- We will be holding our Library Discards Book Sale starting at 2pm on Friday, May 23rd. The sale will then run during our open hours through Saturday, June 7th. Please note, the library will be closed on Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day. 

      Library of Things

      The West Seneca Public Library has a small collection of "things" other than books, DVDs, and CDs, that can be checked out at the desk. These items must be checked out and returned at the West Seneca Public Library's circulation desk. For a list of the things available to checkout, please see the following link!       Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

      The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

      The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here (pdf).

      Next meeting: The next Friends meeting will take place on Monday, May 19th at 6:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library's Community Room.

       

      West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

      The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks (pdf) available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found via the link above.
