    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form.  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Library Meeting Room Policy

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site.  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

      NEW! Citizen Science Kit: Exploring Biodiversity- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on exploring biodiversity. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Exploring Biodiversity kit, containing everything you need to observe local flora and fauna in real time and record your observations! The Exploring Biodiversity kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family! This kit is available for a one week checkout with one renewal, as long as no one else has it on hold. Holds may be placed over the phone with your library card number, or in person at the circulation desk.

      Citizen Science Kit: Observing Pollinators- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on observing pollinators. Are you interested in science?       • Knitting & Crochet Circle-  Mondays from 1:30-3:00 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited.
      • Mission: IGNITE Digital Navigator- One-on-one tech assistance with Mission: IGNITE is available by appointment on select Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4pm-8pm, and select Saturdays from 10am-2pm at the West Seneca Public Library. To schedule an appointment, contact Ruben via call or text at 716-324-5901. You cannot schedule a Mission: IGNITE appointment through the library. 
      • Mission: IGNITE Tech360- Free computer training courses with Mission: IGNITE will take place on Monday June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th from 3:30pm-7:30pm, and also from 10:30am-2:30pm on Saturday, June 15th and 3:30pm-7:30pm on Monday, June 17th. You will learn computer basics, and will receive a free computer after taking BOTH classes out of one set (either June 3rd and 4th or June 15th and 17th). SPACE WILL BE LIMITED. You must pre-register for this course by calling or texting Ruben at 716-324-5901. You cannot pre-register for this course through the library. The courses will take place in the West Seneca Public Library Makerspace. No food or drink is permitted in the Makerspace.
      • Family Story Time- Families with kids of all ages are welcome to join us at two Family Story Time sessions in June, at 6pm on Tuesday the 4th and Tuesday the 25th. Space will be limited. Registration is required for each session- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Baby & Me: Individual-  You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for Baby & Me! Wednesdays at 10am on June 5th and 26th! This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required for each session- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Toddler Time: Individual- Toddlers (ages 2 to 3 1/2) can join us with their parent or guardian on Thursdays at 11am on June 6th and June 27th for Toddler Time. Space will be limited. Registration is required for each session- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • CSPAN Lab- The Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience (CSPAN) Lab of UB will be coming to the West Seneca Public Library to conduct a brief research study! Participation involves completion of a behavioral task on the computer or iPad and takes about 20-30 minutes. Visitors ages 7 and up may be eligible. Parents must be briefly present in order for children to participate! The CSPAN Lab will be at the library on the following dates: June 6 and June 8th from 12pm-3pm, June 20th from 12pm-3pm, and June 28th from 12pm-3pm. They will be present at the library in July as well.
      • Teen Art: Make Your Own Bookmark- Teens ages 11-17 can join us for a fun arts and crafts program where we will be making our own flower bookmarks! This program will take place on Thursday, June 6th at 5pm. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register or for more information!
      • Lego Club- Saturday, June 8th from 10:30 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-3:30 PM.  For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library for more information.
      • Book a Technology Trainer-  Tuesday, June 11th between 10am and 4pm. Need computer assistance? We can help! These free 45-minute sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books on your tablet or phone! Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the library information desk. 
      • Father's Day Card Craft- Need a Father's Day card? Stop by the Makerspace on Tuesday,  June 11th from 5pm-6pm and create one for a father, brother, uncle, or anyone else you would like to celebrate! This all ages event requires registration. Please stop by the library or call 716-674-2928 to register or for more information!
      • Fuse Beads- Thursday, June 13th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Kids Craft Night- Join us for a fun paper bag kite craft on Tuesday, June 18th at 5pm in the Makerspace! For kids ages 5-12. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Battle of the Books Informational Meeting- Students entering 6th-9th grade in the fall of 2024 can join us on Thursday, June 20th at 5:30pm to learn more about the Battle of the Books competition!       • West Seneca Public Library Book Club-  Monday, June 24th at 6:30 PM. Discussing Too Close to the Falls  by Catherine Gildiner. Event takes place in the Makerspace.  For more information please contact the West Seneca Public Library at 716-674-2928.  Space will be limited. No food or drink is permitted.
      • West Seneca Public Library Discards Book Sale- The library will be holding a discarded book sale in the Makerspace from Wednesday, June 26th through Tuesday, July 9th. The sale will take place during the library's open hours- please note, we will be closed July 4th in recognition of Independence Day. Books, DVDs, CDs, and more will be available for purchase! You will be able to buy by the bag, or make individual purchases. Materials will be added to the sale throughout the two week period. Prices are $1 per bag or $0.25 per item.
      • West Seneca Public Library at the Reading Rover!- Miss Emily will be giving out bookmarks, pencils, and information at the West Seneca School's Reading Rover on Friday, June 28th from 1:30-3pm in Centennial Park!
      • Music with Miss Jessica: Parachutes!-  Saturday, June 29th at 11am.  For ages 4-10.  Space will be limited and registration is required.  Please stop by the library or call 716-674-2928 to register. 
      • Kickoff to Summer Reading- Join us on Saturday, June 29th from 1:30pm-3:30pm outside (weather permitting) for an awesome kickoff to summer reading!       • Bookmark Design Contest- From Saturday, June 29th to Wednesday, July 31st the West Seneca Public Library will be holding a bookmark design contest for students entering preschool through 12th grade. Students can submit as many bookmark designs as they would like, but only one winning design and one runner-up will be chosen from each grade. Winners will receive a prize and a large posterboard version of their design, and we will be distributing printed copies of the thirteen winning designs at our circulation desk while supplies last.

      • Mission: IGNITE Tech360- Are you struggling with daily computer tasks like using the Internet and sending emails? Learn basic computer skills with a Mission: Ignite Digital Skills Trainer Ruben. Class sessions will take place Saturday, July 6th from 10:30am-2:30pm and Tuesday, July 9th from 3:30pm-7:30pm, and then again on Saturday, July 13th and 20th from 10:30am-2:30pm. This Tech360 Class is a 2 session training. Participants must attend both sessions for a class to complete the training. Upon successfully completing the training program, participants will receive a FREE DESKTOP COMPUTER, courtesy of Mission: Ignite. You must be 18 or older to attend. Space is limited, so you MUST pre-register at least 7 days before the first session of a scheduled Class. Walk-ins are NOT allowed.       • Outdoor Game Day- Join us for fun outdoor games and activities on Wednesday, July 10th and Wednesday, July 24th from 3pm-4pm! Miss Emily will have games, bubbles, music and more for you to enjoy. No registration is required for this program. Call the Library for more information at 716-674-2928.

The SPCA will bring in a dog for patrons of all ages to read to- we will register patrons in 15 minute time slots. Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Hawk Creek presents Fur, Feathers, and Scales!- Join the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center for a fun program where you'll get to meet different animals! This program will take place in the Community room on Wednesday, July 17th at 2pm. Although this program welcomes patrons of all ages, it is mostly geared to those who are 3 to 10 years old.       Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

      The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

      The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here.

      Next meeting: The next Friends meeting will take place on Monday, August 19th at 6:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room.

       

       

      West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

      The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found HERE.  

      A special thank you to the West Seneca Central School District and the West Seneca West alumni for their generous efforts in helping to assemble this collection of yearbooks!
