 Be a Kid Librarian!

Due to an amazing level of interest in this program, we’re pausing new Kid Librarian applications for the time being. If your child has already applied, don’t worry—they’ll still have the opportunity to create a display as planned. We’ll share an update once we’re ready to start up again. Thanks for your interest and support!

Do you have a child between the ages of 6 and 12 who loves books?  Then they can apply to become a Kid Librarian!  As a Kid Librarian your child will have the chance to create their very own book display- choosing a theme (or going totally random!) with as much or as little help as needed from Jill, one of our Grown-Up Librarians.

Applications are available in the children's area or at the information desk.  Once submitted, we'll reach out to schedule a time for your child to put their display together.  Stop by or call the library if you have any questions or need more information.  We can't wait to see the creative displays your kids come up with!

Map out the frontier and shape all of Western New York land..." 🎶

Long before the Erie Canal made waves, Joseph Ellicott was carving out the path—literally. Step back into 1824 with local historian Dennis Upton as he channels Ellicott himself in a dynamic, one-man living history performance.

Learn how this lesser-known figure helped lay the foundation for the towns, cities, and stories of Western New York. It’s local history with drama, depth, and a dash of founding-era flair.

Bad Art Night 10: Put a Bird on It!

Thursday, October 9,  6-7:30 PM

Can you believe this is our TENTH Bad Art Night? We hardly can. To mark the milestone, we’re going full Portlandia with a theme that’s simple, ridiculous, and perfect: Put a Bird on It.

Think you’re just making regular bad art? Nope. Now it’s elevated bad art. Just slap a bird on there and suddenly it’s ironic, it’s whimsical, it’s gallery-ready.

We’ll have fake birds, bird stickers, feathers, and plenty of oddball craft supplies to inspire your most questionable masterpieces. Add in bad snacks, bird-themed tunes, and you’ve got a fabulously fowl night of creativity.

Ages 13 to 100. Sense of humor required. Registration required too—call the library at (716) 873-2842 during library hours and speak with a real live staff member. Yes, actually talking to a human is the only way to sign up. Space is limited, and spots fill up fast!
