Homework Resources
Beyond books and physical items, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library subscribes to several databases to help students of all kinds. Below are links to relevant databases for students and young people organized by grade.
Elementary School
- Britannica School: Elementary: Select “Elementary” at the Britannica School page. Designed by Britannica Education for kids in grades 3–5. Resources include expert-reviewed articles; photos; videos; maps and infographics; interactive media; primary sources; built-in dictionary and research and accessibility tools; and recommended websites.
- Gale In Context: Elementary: Gale’s In Context research database redesigned for elementary-age students, featuring a kid-friendly interface and content related to elementary-school curricula. Resources include articles, photos, videos, maps and infographics, and built-in research tools. Topic areas include animals, geography, health, influential people, literature, social studies, sports, and technology.
Middle School
- Britannica School: Middle: Select “Middle” at the Britannica School page. Designed by Britannica Education for kids in grades 6–8. Resources include expert-reviewed articles; photos; videos; maps and infographics; interactive media; primary sources; built-in dictionary and research and accessibility tools; and recommended websites.
- Gale In Context: Middle School: This edition of Gale In Context offers content related to middle-school curricula and focuses on building and strengthening digital literacy skills. Resources include articles, photos, videos, maps and infographics, and built-in research tools.
High School
- Britannica School: High: Select “” at the Britannica School page for Britannica School’s high-school level. Designed by Britannica Education for students in grades 9–12. Resources include expert-reviewed articles; photos; videos; maps and infographics; interactive media; primary sources; built-in dictionary and research and accessibility tools; and recommended websites.
- Gale In Context: High School: This edition of Gale In Context offers content related to state and national high-school curriculum standards, including a vast array of resources for papers, projects, and presentations that bolster the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication skills.
- Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints: Contains materials expressing different perspectives on, as well as overviews of, a broad range of current topics.
Advanced Placement
- Britannica Academic: Britannica Education’s collegiate edition, with contributions from Nobel laureates, historians, curators, professors, and other experts. Reading levels and content are advanced to postsecondary-level study and discourse.
- Gale Academic OneFile Full-text articles from academic journals and and other trusted periodicals, suitable for scholarly use.
- Gale Academic OneFile Select Scholarly journals and selected general titles.

- Britannica Escolar: Confiable recurso de aprendizaje en español para alumnos de Primaria y Secundaria
- Gale OneFile: Informe Académico: Informe Académico proporciona acceso a periódicos y revistas especializadas de lengua española y portuguesa. La base de datos ofrece una amplia gama de contenidos sobre América Latina.
