Historical Note

Little Journeys is a series of books written by Elbert Hubbard. Each title focuses on the biography of famous men and women in their home settings. The publication of Little Journeys marks the beginning of the Roycroft Press. In researching this series, Hubbard traveled to Europe in the early 1890s. While there, he became influenced by artist William Morris. After returning to the States, Hubbard was unable to find a publisher for his books; like Morris, he decided to set up his own private press.
