Theme: Why are Buffalo Niagara’s Art, Architecture, History, and/or Nature Important?
Jonathan Schmitz, archivist and historian for Chautauqua Institution, developed the “Art at Chautauqua” theme from the Institution’s 1874 founding. Understandings of art, including its moral implications, evolved among Chautauqua participants. The last portion of Schmitz’s presentation focused on the Arts and Crafts Movement at Chautauqua.
