The Man Booker Prize is 40 years old this year. This prestigious literary prize is awarded to a novel written in English by a citizen of the Commonwealth of Nations, The Republic of Ireland or Zimbabwe. It is sponsored by the Man Group plc of London, an investment management business whose origins go back to a barrel making business on the Thames in 1783. The award is currently worth £50,000 and this year’s winner is Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Indian authors who have won the prize are Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, Kiran Desai and Aravind Adiga.
