September is National Library Card Sign-up Month--a time to remind everyone that a library card provides access to invaluable services from one of the most important resources in our local communities: your neighborhood library. “We believe a library card is the smartest card in your wallet,” said Mary Jean Jakubowski, director of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System. “A library card can open the door to a world of discovery through books, computers and more and, best of all, it’s free!”
When someone wants to save money they can clip coupons and look for sales or they can come to any of the 37 libraries in the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System.
The numbers explain it all. The more than 16,500 people who daily use any of the libraries throughout the County can save their hard-earned cash by taking out books, DVDs, or CDs, using our public computers or attending one of many programs for free.

NY Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education On Hand
New York State Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education Jeffrey W. Cannell was at the downtown Central Library this morning to kick off the 2012 Summer Reading Program for the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System. Hundreds of special programs and events are planned throughout the summer as part of the Library System’s all-ages Summer Reading initiative.
The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System is offering six hands-on eReader informational computer labs in addition to all of the regular computer training classes scheduled in libraries this spring and summer. The eReader Open Labs are free to all.
